About this Item

Pauillac 1995
1 (1 x 1) 750ml
The 1995 Left Bank harvest produced structured, age-worthy wines of genuine depth across Pauillac, with the finest estates delivering concentrated, cedar-inflected Cabernet Sauvignon that has continued to reward patient cellaring. Château d’Armailhac’s 1995 earned 17.5/20 from Jancis Robinson MW, who praised its racy, silky freshness and remarkable flesh and charm, while Robert Parker described it at the time of his review as possibly the finest d’Armailhac he had ever tasted. D’Armailhac is a historic fifth growth in Pauillac whose origins trace to 1680, acquired by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1933 and restored to its historic name with the 1989 vintage by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild. It shares its technical team with neighbouring Château Mouton Rothschild. The blend for this vintage was 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“Possibly the finest d’Armailhac I have yet tasted. Plenty of sweet tannin and gobs of ripe cassis fruit nicely framed by judicious toasty oak. Flavorful, round, generous and hedonistic.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (Feb 1998)

“Very fresh and aromatic. Racy and silky and really very appealing. Lots of flesh covers any dry tannin. Lots of punch and charm.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Mar 2011)
