About this Item
The 2001 Pessac-Léognan harvest delivered wines of genuine finesse and complexity, particularly for the better-drained, gravel-dominant estates, producing a vintage that has rewarded those who cellared with patience. Château Carbonnieux’s 2001 earned 16/20 from Jancis Robinson MW for its frank and neat character, further praise from Robert Parker for its seductive Burgundy-like complexity of forest floor and sweet cherry, and a note from Neal Martin praising its classic tobacco-infused structure that has improved dramatically with age. Carbonnieux is a Grand Cru Classé de Graves with origins traceable to Benedictine monks of the thirteenth century, under the stewardship of the Perrin family since 1956. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Critics Ratings
1999 -“This light-bodied, soft, round, picnic-styled claret reveals jammy cherry fruit mixed with herb-tinged tobacco notes.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (Apr 2002)
2001 - A strong effort from Carbonnieux, this seductive, forward 2001 builds incrementally in the mouth, revealing a Burgundy-like character with its forest floor, sweet cherry/plum, and smoke characteristics. Soft and easy-going, it offers considerable pleasure as well as complexity.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (Jun 2004)
“A very classic, leafy, tobacco-infused nose with a touch of mint. An attractive freshness about it. The palate is medium-bodied with well-integrated oak. Good acidity with notes of tobacco and mulberry.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (Jan 2000)
“Frank, not forced. Quite gentle. Neat.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Oct 2005)
