About this Item

A Chinese famille rose porcelain plate, Canton, 19th century
diameter: 34cm

Notes

A famille rose dish decorated with a central figural scene, framed by floral scrolls, butterflies and the stylised endless knot. The endless knot is one of the Eight Buddhist Auspicious Symbols, representing eternity and continuity. Famille rose enamels were developed in the early 18th century and reached their peak during the Qianlong period. Butterflies are traditionally associated with joy, happiness and transformation, adding symbolic depth to the design.

Provenance

Private Collection.
