A Japanese Arita blue and white porcelain dish, Edo period, circa 1700
diameter: 32cm

Notes

Decorated to the centre with a bird among flowering plants, surrounded by radiating panels enclosing flowering sprigs and symbolic precious objects. This panelled border layout is characteristic of early Arita export porcelain made for European and Asian markets. The “precious objects” motif symbolises prosperity and refinement.
