About this Item
Cape stinkwood and silver-mounted sideboard, 19th century
Notes
This sideboard, which shows the restraint of the Georgian period, is undoubtedly English in influence. The silver escutcheons that give it an elegance and status as well as the fact that it is made entirely of stinkwood, is evidence that it was made in the Cape.
The configuration of drawers and cupboards in this piece is rare and not a common Cape furniture prototype.
Provenance
Private Collection.
