About this Item
Cape Regency stinkwood and riempie rusbank, 19th century
Notes
This rusbank, with its straight horizontal lines, turned back slats and legs, and the absence of stretchers, puts it firmly in the last Cape style period referred to as 'Regency'. Although this style corresponds to English Regency, it developed distinctive characteristics of its own and survived for almost a century in South Africa.
Provenance
Private Collection.
