Notes
This cupboard, Neo-classical in style, is a colonial interpretation of English Sheraton design vocabulary and is highly unusual.
The intricate decorative inlay work, blending of woods, silver escutcheons and good proportions give it a very sophisticated patrician look and must have been made by a highly skilled craftsman.
The door panels are book-matched to create a symmetrical and mirrored figuring. This creates a dramatic flame pattern rising from the lower outer corners towards the centre, another indication of a very skilled craftsman.
Provenance
Private Collection.
