Cape stinkwood peg-top tea table, 18th century
Notes
These tables, important in early Cape households, were known as stretcher or peg-top tables and usually fulfilled multiple functions. Small rectangular tables were found both in the large townhouses as well as the humble homes of the outlying districts and would be found in the 'voorkamer' where guests were received, and other social activities took place.
