About this Item
A Chinese blue and white porcelain wine jar, Kangxi period, 1662-1722
Notes
A large blue-and-white porcelain wine jar from the Kangxi period, decorated in brilliant underglaze cobalt blue characteristic of this reign. Exported to the Cape in the 18th century, jars of this type were commonly repurposed for rice storage and used in local trade. The rich blue tone and fine potting are consistent with wares of this period.
Provenance
