the scalloped striated pink marble top set within a conforming frame above a pierced and carved frieze of pendant vines and gourds, the central pillar with meandering tendrils issuing further gourds and blossoms above a similarly carved base raised on four scrolling feet

Notes
Eastern export furniture, while inspired by earlier Chinese furniture traditions, was produced to align with Western taste for Chinoiserie. Exoticism and craftsmanship were highly prized and used together with forms and functions familiar to Western interiors to produce both practical and decorative furniture.
