the rectangular grooved top with pierced and carved scroll ends above a conforming frieze, raised on rope-twist legs joined by side stretchers, terminating in block feet

Notes
This form is inspired by the altar table of the Qing dynasty, traditionally used in reception halls for scholarly objects, incense burners or ancestral offerings.
The rope-twist legs reflect the growing influence of Western decorative preferences in mid-century Chinese export furniture.
