About this Item

Chinese rosewood 'moon gate' display stand, 20th century
the circular frame enclosing open asymmetrical stepped shelves, raised on a carved pedestal base

* this item is not suitable for export

height: 61,5cm; width: 58cm; depth: 17,5cm

Notes

The circular form of this stand is inspired by the moon gate, a traditional Chinese architectural motif symbolising harmony, balance and completeness.

These types of shelves belong to the long Chinese tradition of the scholar's desk, where miniature objects were displayed for contemplation and inspiration.
