Notes
Centre tables, also known as occasional or pedestal tables, became popular in the 19th century as decorative and functional pieces for drawing rooms and parlours.
The gilt brass dolphin supports and carved pedestal points to a Neo-classical or Empire style influence. Italian artisans were renowned for their skill in working with both marble and decorative metals, often incorporating mythological or naturalistic motifs.
