About this Item

Gautier & Albinet
Paris, France
French gilt-metal and onyx figural mantel clock, late 19th century
the circular enamel dial with Roman numerals and two winding apertures, the case surmounted by a seated classical female figure, raised on a shaped onyx base

*Strauss & Co do not guarantee the clock movement and a service is recommended

height: 55cm; width: 30cm; depth: 17cm

Notes

Gautier & Albinet were Paris-based clockmakers and retailers active in the second half of the 19th century.

The style of the clock shows a strong Neo-classical influence inspired by classical antiquity. The gilt-metal and onyx reflect the fashionable taste of the 'Belle Epoque', where such clocks served as both functional and sculptural ornaments.
