About this Item
French Louis XV marble-topped, parquetry and ormolu-mounted commode, 18th century
the rectangular-shaped rouge and white-veined marble top above a pair of short and two long drawers, bombé form sides, shaped apron, raised on cabriole legs terminating in gilt-metal sabots
height: 83cm; width: 133cm; depth: 63cm
Notes
The term bombé refers to the swelling, serpentine shape of the facade. This form reflects the Rococo taste for movement and extravagance and is associated with the Louis XV period (1730-1760).
The ormolu mounts serve both a decorative and functional purpose, protecting and reinforcing vulnerable areas such as the feet.
