About this Item
Italian walnut parquetry commode, 18th century
the rectangular top above three long drawers, the sides centred by oval panels, raised on square-section tapering legs
height: 98cm; width: 127cm; depth: 62cm
Notes
This commode with its restrained Neo-classical form, straight lines and geometric decoration replaced the more fluid curves of the preceding Rococo period. Italian furniture from this period was renowned for its craftsmanship. The geometric veneer patterns known as parquetry in this piece demonstrate a high level of cabinet-making skill.
