Notes
Although German-born, Kagan is regarded as one of the most influential American furniture designers of the 20th century. He established his career in New York, where his organically sculpted, curvilinear furniture became synonymous with American Mid-Century Modern design.
The 'Model 176SC' Floating Curved Sofa is celebrated for its biomorphic silhouette, sculpted wooden legs, and flowing lines that revolutionised modern interior design.
His clients included Marilyn Monroe, Gary Cooper, Frank Sinatra and Andy Warhol and as noted by Zaha Hadid, "While the works of his contemporaries are definitive, finite and frozen, you experience a wonderful sense of liberation in the nonlinear, organic forms of Vladimir's collections".
