About this Item
Bodegas Muga, founded in 1932 in the railway district of Haro, is one of Rioja's most respected family estates, still fermenting in oak vats and making its own barrels. Torre Muga is its bold, modern flagship, a powerful Tempranillo-led red aged in new French oak. 2011 was a very good, warm Rioja vintage. Luis Gutiérrez from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 95, and Richard Hemming MW gave it 16 out of 20.

"The 2011 Torre Muga is a dark-colored, almost opaque, ripe and concentrated effort. It is quite heady with aromas of ripe plums, spices, lead pencil, ink and well-integrated oak. The palate is full-bodied, round and lush with plenty of dense and concentrated tannins that feel very young. If you have in mind the Torre Muga from the beginning, this has a lot less oak and is less extracted; it has much better balance. As usual, it's a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo and others, from a very cold zone close to the Oja-Tirón rivers, which might explain why this wine is so fresh in such a warm vintage." - Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Apr 2015)
"Vibrant and powerful, but anonymous – the volume and process overrides the origin." - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Dec 2015)
