About this Item

Collection 2018
3 (1 x 3) 750ml

Lafarge Vial is the Beaujolais estate of Frédéric Lafarge, of the great Volnay domaine Michel Lafarge, and his wife Chantal, farmed biodynamically across the region's granite crus. This lot brings together three of its 2018 crus: the delicate Chiroubles, the volcanic Côte de Brouilly, and the old-vine Fleurie Joie du Palais. 2018 was a very good Beaujolais vintage.

This lot consists of the following wines:
Lafarge Vial Chiroubles 2018
Côte de Brouilly 2018
Fleurie Joie du Palais 2018

Critics Ratings

Lafarge-Vial Chiroubles 2018
"Offering up inviting aromas of blackberries, cassis and cherries mingled with hints of licorice and grilled meats, the 2018 Chiroubles is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, with a generous core of lively fruit, tangy acids and fine, powdery tannin. This characterful, classically proportioned Chiroubles is a great success." - William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 91/100 (May 2020)

"The 2018 Chiroubles is matured in 30-hectoliter foudres. It boasts plenty of blueberry and cassis on the lively, very pure nose. The palate is silky-smooth with succulent ripe blue fruit, offering lovely weight in the mouth and a long, tender finish." - Neal Martin, Vinous (Oct 2019)

"Very good year for Beaujolais – fine and healthy. 25% whole bunch. Quite a bit of acidity." - Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Nov 2020)

Lafarge-Vial Côte de Brouilly 2018
"Very fruity and textured and pirouetting in the mouth. Pretty smart. Tension!" - Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Nov 2020)

"The 2018 Côte de Brouilly is resplendent with red cherries and crushed strawberry on the nose, the most Côte d'Or like of all Lafarge's Beaujolais. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fleshy and forward, with a beautifully balanced, almost Beaune-like finish. Lovely." - Neal Martin, Vinous, 92/100 (Oct 2019)

"Aromas of cherries, raspberries, burning embers and raw cocoa introduce the 2018 Côte de Brouilly, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy but precise wine, with lovely depth at the core, refined tannins and a long, mineral finish. This is a serious, age-worthy cru Beaujolais." - William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 92/100 (May 2020)

Lafarge-Vial Fleurie Joie du Palais 2018
"Beautifully vibrant and precise, the 2018 Fleurie Joie du Palais wafts from the glass with a pretty bouquet of raspberries, red plums, peonies and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, lively and elegant, it's built around fine, powdery tannins and a tangy spine of acidity." - William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 93+/100 (May 2020)

"The 2018 Fleurie La Joie du Palais has a complex bouquet of mulberry, black cherries, incense and violet aromas that are very intense. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, showing more red fruit than the regular Fleurie and a fleshy and quite voluminous finish. Very fine." - Neal Martin, Vinous, 91/100 (Oct 2019)

"Thick and sweet – less obviously Fleurie than their village Fleurie. Lots of ripe tannin. Needs time." - Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 16+/20 (Nov 2020)
