A fine selection of white Burgundy, spanning the full range of the region's great Chardonnay appellations - from the flinty, mineral wines of Chablis through to the richer, more textured expressions of the Côte de Beaune. Highlights include Grand Cru bottlings from Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside benchmark Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet from names such as Roulot, Coche-Bizouard and Etienne Sauzet. About this Item

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Marquis de Laguiche 2019
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in Beaune in 1880 and biodynamic across its holdings, is one of Burgundy's benchmark houses, drawing on vineyards throughout the Côte d'Or and Chablis. The Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot comes from the famous Marquis de Laguiche holding, which Drouhin has long made and bottled, one of the estate's benchmark white Premier Crus. 2019 was a warm but balanced white Burgundy vintage of rich, concentrated whites with fine freshness. Jancis Robinson MW gave it 17+ out of 20, with Neal Martin also reviewing it for Vinous.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

Critics Ratings

"Really intriguing lift on the nose and deep, deep flavours. This very impressive, reasonably open wine has real grip and integrity on the palate. So deep-flavoured with lime and savour. Better than some grands crus. Really racy." - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (Dec 2020)

"The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot 1er Cru (Marquis de Laguiche), which went through complete malo, has an almost feisty bouquet of lemongrass-tinged tropical fruit that sports just a tiny reduction. The palate is very well balanced, and a striking line of acidity imparts great tension. Quite complex on the finish, this offers appealing ginger and apricot notes on the aftertaste, plus the sapidity to encourage you back for another sip. Excellent." - Neal Martin, Vinous (Oct 2020)
