Meursault 2015

Burgundy International - White
About the Session

A fine selection of white Burgundy, spanning the full range of the region's great Chardonnay appellations - from the flinty, mineral wines of Chablis through to the richer, more textured expressions of the Côte de Beaune. Highlights include Grand Cru bottlings from Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside benchmark Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet from names such as Roulot, Coche-Bizouard and Etienne Sauzet. Producers represented range from grower-estates to celebrated négociant houses, offering collectors an excellent cross-section of what white Burgundy does best.

About this Item

Meursault 2015
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in Beaune in 1880 and biodynamic across its holdings, is one of Burgundy's benchmark houses, drawing on vineyards throughout the Côte d'Or and Chablis. This is its village Meursault. 2015 was a warm, ripe white Burgundy vintage giving rich, generous wines. Jancis Robinson MW gave it 16 out of 20, with Stephen Tanzer also reviewing it for Vinous and Allen Meadows for Burghound.com.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Very restrained nose with a hint of liquorice. Smooth texture and a little more friendly, and certainly less reductive, than the current Meursault mode. A friendly Meursault for fairly early drinking." - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Jan 2017)

"Light yellow. Pure, restrained aromas of white peach, menthol and white pepper accented by orange peel. Dry, firm and broad but youthfully backward owing to surprising orange zest acidity. A village wine with excellent potential." - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous (Jun 2016)

"A ripe but classic nose of hazelnut and fresh white orchard fruit aromas is trimmed in a hint of matchstick. The rich, full and naturally sweet middle weight flavors also possess fine depth and length for a villages level wine. This is seductively delicious if a bit less energetic but richer and one that should repay 4 to 6 years of cellar time." - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (Jun 2017)
