Burgundy International - Red
About the Session

Session 3 is devoted to red Burgundy, drawing together some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Grower estates such as Armand Rousseau, Denis Mortet, Denis Bachelet, Georges Lignier and Ghislaine Barthod anchor a run of grand and premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, while a extraordinary group of lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including Échézeaux, Grands Échézeaux, Richebourg, La Tâche and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, forms the session's centrepiece. Rounded out by classic bottlings from Volnay, Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges, plus a scattering of Beaujolais crus, this session offers exceptional depth for Pinot Noir collectors.

About this Item

Collection 2010, 2012
4 (1 x 4) 750ml
This lot consists of the following wines:
Joseph Drouhin Chablis Vaudon 2012 (1x 750ml)
Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Rouge 2010 (2 x 750ml)
Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches 2010 (1 x 750ml)

Founded in Beaune in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy's benchmark producers, renowned for its biodynamic viticulture and elegant, terroir-driven wines. This collection showcases the estate's diversity, from the mineral-driven Chablis Vaudon, grown on Kimmeridgian limestone and vinified in stainless steel, to the refined Côte de Beaune Rouge and the celebrated Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches, one of the house's most iconic vineyards. The classic 2010 Côte d'Or vintage produced finely structured, age-worthy reds with vibrant fruit and fresh, supple tannins, while the low-yielding 2012 Chablis vintage delivered concentrated wines with purity and classic minerality. Clos des Mouches received 92+ points from Stephen Tanzer (Vinous) and 17/20 from Jancis Robinson MW.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

Critics Ratings

Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Rouge 2010
“The 2010 Côte de Beaune comes across as quite fleshy and supple. Dark red berries, licorice, spices and tobacco are some of the notes that flesh out in this radiant, gracious wine. Drouhin uses young vines from Clos des Mouches and several other 1er Crus for the Côte de Beaune. I especially like the round finish for the way it elevates the wine.” - Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2012)

Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches 2010
“Moderately saturated bright medium red. Pretty aromas of red raspberry, flowers and crushed stone. Juicy and very pure but youthfully imploded, with a penetrating minerality contributing to the impression of inner-mouth tension. Lovely delicacy and finesse here. The very long, sappy, echoing finish perks up the taste buds. Still a baby, and wonderfully light on its feet.” - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 92+/100 (Mar 2013)

“Lip-smacking, satisfying nose. Intense nose with quite a tough end. Just a hint of beetroot.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jan 2012)
