About this Item
Provenance
The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.
For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.
Critics Ratings
"Bright, mid garnet with a pale rim. A slightly raw note on the nose; this is much less evolved than the white version. There is sweet fruit on the palate, almost glacé-cherry notes, but the oak is still a little evident. Nicely ripe tannins. A little more obviously ripe than many Drouhin reds." - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5+/20 (Apr 2021)
"Classy, this pliant, succulent red boasts black cherry, raspberry, floral and spice flavors. It's firm and focused, with a silky texture and lingering notes of fruit and spice." - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (May 2021)
"The 2018 Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge 1er Cru, which includes 25% whole clusters and a maximum of 25% new oak, has a well-defined nose with dark cherries, raspberry and perhaps less of the blueberry element that I remarked upon from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with a very smooth texture, fleshy and generous with a cashmere textured second half. This lovely, beguiling Clos des Mouches embraces the warmth and precocity of the growing season, and as such, it will be irresistible in its youth." - Neal Martin, Vinous, 92/100 (Sep 2022)
