Burgundy International - White
About the Session

A fine selection of white Burgundy, spanning the full range of the region's great Chardonnay appellations - from the flinty, mineral wines of Chablis through to the richer, more textured expressions of the Côte de Beaune. Highlights include Grand Cru bottlings from Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside benchmark Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet from names such as Roulot, Coche-Bizouard and Etienne Sauzet. Producers represented range from grower-estates to celebrated négociant houses, offering collectors an excellent cross-section of what white Burgundy does best.

About this Item

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 2014
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard is a benchmark Chassagne-Montrachet estate, run since 1989 by Jean-Noël's daughter Caroline Lestimé, who farms it organically and built its reputation on plot-by-plot white Burgundies. Les Caillerets is her flagship Premier Cru, from pebbly soil near the top of the slope, the most complete of her crus and built to age a decade or more. 2014 is a benchmark white Burgundy vintage of ripe fruit and vivid tension. Jancis Robinson MW gave it 16.5 out of 20, and Stephen Tanzer from Vinous gave it a rating of 92.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"High-toned nose and then pretty solid on the palate. Not quite sure about the price premium. But there is admittedly great density here." - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Jan 2016)

"Bright, pale yellow. Highly aromatic nose combines orange zest and crushed stone. The broadest of these 2014 samples but energized by mineral-driven acidity and a strong salty quality. Finishes firm-edged and long, with subtle orange-y sweetness and crushed-rock minerality." - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 92/100 (Jun 2016)
