Coche-Bizouard

Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2014

Burgundy International - White
About the Session

A fine selection of white Burgundy, spanning the full range of the region's great Chardonnay appellations - from the flinty, mineral wines of Chablis through to the richer, more textured expressions of the Côte de Beaune. Highlights include Grand Cru bottlings from Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside benchmark Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet from names such as Roulot, Coche-Bizouard and Etienne Sauzet. Producers represented range from grower-estates to celebrated négociant houses, offering collectors an excellent cross-section of what white Burgundy does best.

About this Item

Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2014
5 (1 x 5) 750ml
Coche-Bizouard is a respected Meursault family estate, part of the extended Coche clan of the village and long run by Alain Coche-Bizouard, now by his son Fabien. Meursault-Charmes is one of the village's greatest Premier Crus, a large lower-slope site giving rich yet mineral white. 2014 is a benchmark white Burgundy vintage, marrying ripe fruit with vivid tension, minerality and freshness, and is widely regarded as one of the finest of its decade. Neal Martin from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 95.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes is showing a touch of reduction on the nose, but underneath lies crisp citrus fruit and fine minéralité interwoven with delicate, subtle white peach scents that surface with time. The palate is saline and fresh on the entry, very tensile with fine delineation, well-integrated oak and impressive depth on the brioche-tinged finish. This is an exceptionally fine contribution to the vintage from Coche-Bizouard." - Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Oct 2017)
