Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

Storm Wines Ignis Pinot Noir 2019
“Remarkably bold and confident when tasted next to the 2017. The tannins are more chewy but still very supple, tango-dancer tannins. Sweet-pea perfume with a delicious dash of juicy fruit and cherry sherbet, playful and even a little bit exotic with notes of incense. Lots of character, real flair. “Ignis comes from the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, the middle of the three sub-regions, just two kilometres from Vrede. Storm Wines Ridge Pinot Noir 2019
“Bright mid garnet. Complex, muted nose. Sweet, light fruit on the palate which finishes bone dry with quite a bit of acidity. And marked tannin. “Ridge comes from the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge and is the youngest of the Storm Pinot Noir vineyards, located on the same shale soils but at a considerably higher altitude. Storm Wines Vrede Pinot Noir 2019
“Smells more of oak than the older vintages tasted up to now, but still elegant. White pepper, cigar spice. Then the fruit begins to build like a strings crescendo through the percussion of spice: raspberries, wild strawberries, blood orange. It floods the oak. Tannins are broader, firmer, more resolute, but still fine and long. Lots of cigar on the palate, garrigue, more herbal. More angles. “Yields were down by 50% in this small, dry vintage, not helped by the fact that Vrede is an unirrigated vineyard, but the quality of this stunning Pinot Noir was as high as ever.
