“A mix of pepper and dark floral character. Deliciously scented (not perfumed). Open-armed from the start. Come hither. On the palate, juicy, surprisingly dense but still with that mix of savoury spice and floral, pure dark fruit. Less open on the palate than on the nose. Paper-fine texture, fresh and long with impeccable harmony. I can imagine drinking this now. “The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has an ethereal bouquet with dark cherry, blueberry, light wilted rose petal and shucked oyster shell scents. The palate is well balanced with finely-chiselled red cherry fruit intermixed with raspberry, crushed stone and a dab of spice. Harmonious through to the structured finish. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, structured around ripe, powdery tannins, it’s layered and lively, maintaining impeccable balance in this warm vintage.
