Robert Groffier Père et Fils

Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées 2018

Burgundy International - Red
About the Session

Session 3 is devoted to red Burgundy, drawing together some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Grower estates such as Armand Rousseau, Denis Mortet, Denis Bachelet, Georges Lignier and Ghislaine Barthod anchor a run of grand and premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, while a extraordinary group of lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including Échézeaux, Grands Échézeaux, Richebourg, La Tâche and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, forms the session's centrepiece. Rounded out by classic bottlings from Volnay, Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges, plus a scattering of Beaujolais crus, this session offers exceptional depth for Pinot Noir collectors.

About this Item

Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées 2018
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
Domaine Robert Groffier Père & Fils, cellared in Morey-Saint-Denis but with its vines almost all in Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin, is a four-generation family estate now run by Nicolas Groffier and famed as the largest owner of Chambolle's Les Amoureuses. Les Seuvrées is a Gevrey-Chambertin village lieu-dit. 2018 was a warm, ripe and generous Côte de Nuits vintage of rich, plush reds. Julia Harding MW from JancisRobinson.com gave it 16.5 out of 20, Bruce Sanderson from Wine Spectator gave it a rating of 93, and Neal Martin from Vinous gave it a rating of 90.

Critics Ratings

"Glowing cherry red. Darker fruited and more spicy than the Bourgogne. Seems to have some whole-bunch freshness in a herbal note. Dry in texture, fine like layers of paper, elegant if not particularly intense. Very moreish." - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Jan 2020)

"This muscular red offers ripe aromas and flavors of blackberry and black cherry that are quickly engulfed in the grip of dense tannins. The aftertaste echoes the fruit, along with earth, iron and tobacco notes. This has a lot in reserve and fine length." - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Apr 2021)

"The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées has an attractive bouquet with brambly red berry fruit, hints of undergrowth and cola. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, finely balanced with touches of truffle and bitter cherry towards the finish. Fine energy here in context of the growing season but it needs time." - Neal Martin, Vinous, 90/100 (Oct 2020)
