Armand Rousseau Père et Fils

Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes 2016

Burgundy International - Red
About the Session

Session 3 is devoted to red Burgundy, drawing together some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Grower estates such as Armand Rousseau, Denis Mortet, Denis Bachelet, Georges Lignier and Ghislaine Barthod anchor a run of grand and premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, while a extraordinary group of lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including Échézeaux, Grands Échézeaux, Richebourg, La Tâche and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, forms the session's centrepiece. Rounded out by classic bottlings from Volnay, Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges, plus a scattering of Beaujolais crus, this session offers exceptional depth for Pinot Noir collectors.

About this Item

Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes 2016
1 (1 x 1) 750ml
Domaine Armand Rousseau farms a peerless block of Gevrey-Chambertin crus. The Clos des Ruchottes is the estate’s walled monopole within the small, high-lying Ruchottes-Chambertin grand cru, giving a firm, mineral and intensely aromatic wine. The 2016 is an excellent, classic vintage, frost-reduced but pure, and one of the standouts of the Rousseau cellar.

Critics Ratings

“Heady, jewelly nose with a dramatic concentration of ripe fruit. Really rather sumptuous. Lots of richness that almost covers the structure. So long and rich.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 18/20 (Jan 2018)

“Alluring, saturated flavors of pure cherry, currant and wild strawberry are at the core of this juicy red. As this evolves on the palate, licorice and spice notes emerge and vibrant acidity kicks in. Beautifully balanced, showing terrific energy and a long aftertaste of fruit, spice and mineral.” - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 97/100 (Nov 2019)

“The 2016 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru was one of the standouts of this Rousseau smorgasbord! This has a heavenly bouquet with intense red fruit, crushed stone and incense that gain vigour with every swirl of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant, fluid tannins. Very harmonious and poised, wonderful density, almost perfectly balanced, this is Rousseau’s Ruchottes at its zenith. Fabulous.” - Neal Martin, Vinous, 97/100 (Nov 2025)
