About the Session

A rich offering of vintage wines that have stood the test of time. Wine Specialist, Higgo Jacobs comments “These categories have strong historical ties with South Africa's wine industry, and they remain underrated in terms of bandwidth and prices, while consistently over-delivering on quality.”

About this Item

Clos de Bourg Moelleux 1986
1 (1 x 1) 750ml
The 1986 Loire Valley vintage was a year of considerable quality for the sweet wines of Vouvray, producing Moelleux of genuine depth and the fine natural acidity characteristic of the appellation's most age-worthy expressions. Huet's 1986 Clos de Bourg Moelleux earned 92 points from Roger Voss at Wine Enthusiast. Clos de Bourg is Gaston Huet's personal favourite of the estate's three great vineyards, an enclosed parcel of six hectares surrounded by ancient stone walls located on the first slopes above the church of Vouvray, where thin, shallow soils barely one metre deep rest directly on non-active Turonian tuffeau limestone, producing the most powerful and structured wines in the Huet lineup.

Mentioned in records as early as the 7th century, it is one of the oldest recognised Grand Cru plots in France. The wine is 100% Chenin Blanc, fermented in the estate's legendary underground tuffeau cellars.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Intensely rich without being sweet, this wine is full of ripe flavours and a touch of honey. A wonderful combination of spices, candied fruits and opulence, with acidity that rounds the wine out beautifully." - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (Oct 2017)
