About the Session

A rich offering of vintage wines that have stood the test of time. Wine Specialist, Higgo Jacobs comments “These categories have strong historical ties with South Africa's wine industry, and they remain underrated in terms of bandwidth and prices, while consistently over-delivering on quality.”

About this Item

Le Mont Moelleux 2002
2 (1 x 2) 750ml
The 2002 Loire Valley vintage was a year of precise, fresh character and naturally high acidity, producing sweet wines of classical Vouvray elegance, fine balance and the kind of vivid, vibrant structure that guarantees a long and rewarding evolution in the cellar. Huet's 2002 Le Mont Moelleux earned 93 points from Rebecca Gibb MW at Vinous. Le Mont is one of the three great single-vineyard holdings of Domaine Huet, situated on the Premiere Cote with pebbly soils of green clay and silica producing wines of intense minerality and linear precision.

Gaston Huet, who built the estate's legendary reputation over more than five decades, died in 2002 in the very vintage his estate produced this wine. The wine is from a naturally botrytis-influenced harvest of Chenin Blanc, fermented in the ancient tuffeau-carved cellars and bottled without manipulation.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

Critics Ratings

"The 2002 Le Mont Moelleux appears surprisingly cool and juicy. Multiple aromas on the nose are perfectly showcased, with sweetness present but not overpowering, minerality coming through wonderfully enhanced by the acidity. Never heavy, but light-footed and playful, the sweetness flows into a wonderfully smooth texture that after almost twenty years does not seem tired in the slightest." – Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, 93/100 (Apr 2021)
