About this Item

Corton-Charlemagne 2008
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
Recorked in 2025 at Bouchard Père et Fils, ensuring provenance, quality and continued ageing potential.

The 2008 Côte de Beaune white harvest demanded precise viticulture and careful selection in the cellar, rewarding those who achieved it with wines of exceptional mineral intensity, structural precision and the kind of extraordinary longevity that defines the greatest expressions of white Burgundy. Bouchard Père & Fils' 2008 Corton-Charlemagne earned a 17 points from Julia Harding MW. Corton-Charlemagne is one of the great white Grands Crus of Burgundy, its legendary name recalling the Emperor Charlemagne who prompted the planting of Chardonnay on the south-facing slopes of the hill of Corton, farmed by Bouchard Père & Fils across 3.98 hectares of shallow marly limestone soils that define the appellation's hallmark mineral purity and exceptional age-worthiness. The wine is produced from 100% Chardonnay, aged 14 to 16 months in French oak with up to 20% new barrels.

Provenance

These wines have been sourced directly from the ancient 15th Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. They were imported into South Africa in March 2026 by Great Domaines via refrigerated container (reefer), ensuring optimal preservation throughout transit.

Critics Ratings

“Direct, determined, serious. Rather hidden at the moment but a good deal more to come from this closed book.” - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jan 2010)

“A refined leesy nose, not saying much at the moment but it has a broody intensity to it and very well defined. Touches of lemon curd and frangipane developing with time. The palate is lively and exuberant, that citrus attack revivifying the palate, taut and focused, zinging round the mouth. The complexity will come later.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (Mar 2010)
