About this Item

Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 2017
1 (1 x 1) 1500ml
The 2017 Côte de Nuits harvest was defined by dramatic spring frosts that severely reduced yields across the finest vineyards of Burgundy, but the small quantities that did ripen achieved a quality of exceptional precision, aromatic purity and structural elegance that has drawn consistent and widespread critical admiration. Bouchard Père & Fils' 2017 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, offered here in magnum, earned 94 points from William Kelley at Wine Advocate.com. Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is one of the supreme Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, founded by the monks of the Abbey of Bèze in the 7th century and the only Grand Cru in Burgundy permitted to append the name Chambertin to its own, producing wines of exceptional aromatic complexity and multi-decade cellaring potential. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged 12 to 14 months in French oak with 40 to 50% new barrels.

Provenance

These wines have been sourced directly from the ancient 15th Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. They were imported into South Africa in March 2026 by Great Domaines via refrigerated container (reefer), ensuring optimal preservation throughout transit.

Critics Ratings

“From bottle, the 2017 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru wafts from the glass with pretty aromas of cassis, cherries, black tea, rose petals and spices. On the palate, it's full-bodied, supple and satiny, with a textural attack, a fleshy, succulent core of fruit and a pure and expansive finish. Open-knit and charming, the wine's powdery, melting tannins are largely concealed. This is a generous, head-turning Clos de Bèze that delivers immense pleasure, albeit comparatively little in the way of profundity.” - William Kelley, Wine Advocate, 94/100 (Apr 2019)

“Fairly straightforward after their Domaine Chambertin, with all the flavour perhaps still under lock and key. Plenty of concentration on the palate with a thick, fibrous texture on the finish. A long-term prospect.” - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, ++17/20 (Jan 2019)

“The nose has a restrained, mineral edge. Gun-smoke and flinty notes, wild herbs and sous bois with super fine cherries, as well as crushed red flowers. All very delicate this early in its journey. The palate has a sleek and appealingly powerful feel that expands fully on fine, long and fresh tannins. The regal finish is already impressive.” - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com (Jan 2019)
