About this Item

Lalande de Pomerol 2012
4 (1 x 4) 750ml
The 2012 Castillon harvest produced wines of excellent freshness, purity and mineral precision from the clay-limestone plateau soils, with the finest estates delivering wines of real depth and character that have continued to reward cellaring. Château Montlandrie’s 2012 was praised by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for its terrific purity, texture and equilibrium, and by Julia Harding MW, who found it restrained and savoury with an attractive severity and a firm, dry finish of genuine character. Montlandrie is the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux estate of the late Denis Durantou, celebrated owner of Château L’Église-Clinet in Pomerol, who purchased and assembled four neighbouring properties into a single 12-hectare estate between 2009 and 2011. Its name means hill of windmills in the old local dialect. Denis passed away in 2020 and the estate is now run with great passion by his daughters Constance, Noémie and Alix. The 2012 blend is 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc on clay-limestone soils, aged in 30% new French oak.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“Typical of his wines, the terrific purity, texture and overall equilibrium are flawless. Deep ruby/purple with sweet black cherry, plum and black currant fruit, vivid purity, good acidity and ripe tannin. Medium-bodied and opulent.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (Apr 2015)

“Restrained on the nose with just a touch of cassis. Dark and dry on the palate, firm and savoury and not very giving but has a rather attractive severity. Firm, dry finish.” - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Apr 2013)
