About this Item

Margaux 2010
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
The 2010 Médoc harvest is broadly regarded as one of the greatest of the modern era, producing wines of remarkable structure and longevity, and at Château Deyrem Valentin it delivered one of the estate’s most acclaimed performances. The 2010 earned 91/100 from Neal Martin, who called it one of his personal favourite Margaux estates and praised its purity, mineral finish and profound sense of terroir. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate described it as a delicious sleeper of the vintage, impressively textured and surprisingly deep for a Cru Bourgeois. Deyrem Valentin is a small family property founded in 1730 and owned by the Sorge family since 1928, farming 14 hectares of deep gravel, sand and clay soils in Soussans, bordering the finest classified estates of Margaux. The blend is 50% Merlot and 49% Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot, aged in 30% new French oak.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“One of my personal favourite Margaux estates, the 2010 does not disappoint. Wonderful purity on the nose with blackberry, raspberry and a touch of rose petals. Medium-bodied with a fine thread of acidity, superb build and a crisp, pure, mineral finish that speaks of its terroir.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Nov 2012)

“A delicious, elegant, complex sleeper of the vintage. Dense plum/ruby purple with floral notes mixed with incense, camphor, blueberries and black currants. Medium to full-bodied and surprisingly deep for a Cru Bourgeois. Impressively textured, long and supple on the finish.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (Feb 2013)
