Chantegrive Cuvée Caroline Graves 2010 (1 x 750ml)
Chateau Beaumont Haut-Médoc 2010 (1 x 1500ml)
The 2010 Graves white harvest benefited from exceptional ripeness and freshness, producing wines of real precision and ageing potential that rank among the finest dry whites the appellation has delivered in recent decades. Château de Chantegrive’s Cuvée Caroline 2010 drew praise from both Robert Parker, who noted its lovely smoky grapefruit and buttered citrus character, and Neal Martin, who described it as very fine and doubtlessly good value. The Cuvée Caroline is named in honour of Caroline Lévêque and is one of the benchmark barrel-fermented dry whites of the Graves appellation. The blend is 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Sémillon, fermented and aged in new French oak.
The 2010 Left Bank harvest produced wines of remarkable structural integrity and longevity, considered among the finest vintages in a generation across the Haut-Médoc. Offered here in magnum, Château Beaumont’s 2010 received 16/20 from Jancis Robinson MW, who praised its sophisticated, polished and refreshingly subtle character, and was further commended by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for its attractive fruit and lush, accessible style. Beaumont is one of the largest Cru Bourgeois estates in the Haut-Médoc, its 114 hectares in Cussac-Fort-Médoc between Saint-Julien and Margaux farmed sustainably under Terra Vitis certification since 2004, under the ownership of Grands Millésimes de France, the same group that owns Château Beychevelle. Magnums are known to age more gracefully than standard bottles, providing additional complexity and longevity. The blend is 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Merlot with Petit Verdot.
Provenance
The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.
David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.
For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.
Critics Ratings

“With lovely, smoky grapefruit notes intermixed with buttered citrus, this equal-part blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon is medium-bodied and very fine.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (Feb 2013)
“Very good ripeness on the nose with touches of beeswax and honeysuckle, all with well integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with an attractive white peach entry and a fresh, citric palate with good length and persistency. Very fine indeed and doubtlessly good value.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (May 2011)
Chateau Beaumont Haut-Médoc 2010
