Notes
These chairs were made by cabinet maker Earnest Arther from Geo. Parkes & Sons in Knysna.
The chairs are a South African interpretation of the English Queen Anne style which is characterised by soft, curved lines.
The typical Queen Anne features such as the back stiles which curve inwards at the top ends to form the the top back rail, the vase shape of the single back slat and the cabriole legs with carving on the knees, can all be seen in this chair.
