Empire style mahogany and leather armchair with carved lion heads, 19th century
the curved barrel back above a close-nailed leather upholstered seat, scrolled arms terminating in carved lion-head masks, raised on turned front legs and splayed rear legs
height: 80cm; width: 58cm; depth: 50cm

Notes

Inspired by early 19th century Regency prototypes, chairs of this form were favoured for library and desk use. The lion head terminals reflect the Regency period's fascination with classical antiquity.
