A Japanese wooden single-case inro, Meiji period, 1868-1912

broad rectangular, the front carved with the mask of tengu against a diaper ground, the reverse with a mask of a laughing figure, enclosed by scrollwork, with double face mask ojime, minor chipping, 10cm high; a Japanese wooden three-case inro, Meiji period, 1868-1912, of upright form, the front carved with Shiba Onko holding a piece of a large broken jar and gazing at waves against a diaper ground, the reverse with his laughing friend released from the jar amongst waves, enclosed by billowing drapes, with bronze heart-shaped ojime, 7,8cm high; and a Japanese wooden four-case inro, Meiji period, 1868-1912, the front carved with figures and dwellings before a riverscape, the reverse with figures, fishermen in sampans, dwellings and trees in a mountainous landscape, enclosed by a foliate-and-geometric carved border, blue melon-shaped bead ojime, minor chips, 7,5cm high
