About this Item
A Japanese lacquered fubako, Meiji period, 19th century
rectangular, against a roiro ground, decorated elaborately with peonies and scrolling tendrils, with loose cover enclosing a detachable tray, the sides applied with loop handles fitted with a cord, loss to one side, 12,6cm high, 41cm long, 11,5cm deep; and another, against a roiro ground, the loose cover decorated in varicoloured gold hiramaki-e with an iris and peonies issuing from a rocky outcrop with a bird and butterfly above, embellished with mother-of-pearl highlights, the interior with nashiji, the sides applied with loop handles fitted with cord, minor chips,8,6cm high, 33,5cm long, 12,5cm deep
