Notes
Rodney Band was born in South Africa and grew up in Israel. He specializes in creating large sculptural bowls hand-hewn from carefully sourced logs which are characterized by unique colour and character. He has more recently incorporated brass elements into his pieces.
Wild olive root art involves using the gnarled and often twisted roots of the wild olive tree (Olea europaea africana) for artistic expression. These trees, known for their resilience and unique root structures, are found in various regions, including South Africa, and offer a natural and visually interesting medium for sculptors and artists. The roots are often used to create sculptures, carvings, and other forms of art that celebrate the tree's natural beauty and strength.
Band has exhibited extensively in South Africa and abroad, including shows at EBONY Curated, Franschhoek, Southern Guild and Maison & Objet, Paris. He continues to collaborate with leading interior designers such as ARRC, OKHA, Black Pear and Cecile & Boyd.
