About this Item

A Cape yellowwood and stinkwood dining table, 19th century

Notes

This is a typical example of a Regency style dining table with yellowwood top, straight apron and stinkwood legs. The tapering ring-turned leg is so typical of the Cape regency period that it is sometimes referred to as the "Cape leg." These legs were made in quantities by specialized workshops and distributed all over the country, making the pieces fairly uniform and more difficult to distinguish regional differences.
