In 1880, a 22-year-old Joseph Drouhin settled in Beaune and founded his own wine company. His son Maurice succeeded him and established a domaine for the Drouhin house by buying land in outstanding appellations including the famous Clos des Mouches and Clos de Vougeot. Today, 4th generation Véronique Drouhin continues the family’s prestigious Burgundy legacy. With 73 hectares of biodynamically-farmed vines, Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy’s largest estates. With vineyards in close to 90 different appellations, Drouhin offers a fascinating array of Burgundy terroirs.

Critics Ratings

Joseph Drouhin Gevrey-Chambertin 1999
‘This is over-performing for its quality level with the richness of the vintage coupled with great delineation and focus to the aromas and flavors. Dark cherry fruit with anise, truffle, iron-type minerals and a bit of beef juices/game come through with air time. Definitely showing some umami/soy savor in the mouth with coated tannins still. This is more like 92-93, honestly and could have been a 1er Cru.’ - Cellartracker.com, 92/100 (Jan 2022)

‘Gevrey-Chambertin is a wine with a beautiful, bright ruby colour. Intensely fruity on the nose, the aromas are reminiscent of black cherry, wild blackberry and liquorice. The woody character is subtle and marries delicately with the other aromas. As the wine evolves, there are more complex notes, such as mild spice, nutmeg and leather. Later still, mushroom and damp earth nuances make their appearance. Although present on the palate, tannin is never astringent but blends itself harmoniously with the natural freshness and "gras" (velvety texture) of the wine. The same aromas encountered earlier on the nose are found again in the aftertaste’ - Joseph Drouhin

Joseph Drouhin Aloxe-Corton 2001
‘A well-structured wine, without any hardness. Beautiful intense red colour. Powerful nose, with aromas of candied fruit, evolving with age towards spicy and musky aromas. A solid framework is felt on the palate. Long aftertaste with flavours reminiscent of the same candied fruit aromas’ - Joseph Drouhin
