A 1.5 litre bottle of Raats Family Wines Jasper Red Blend 2017

This 1.5 litre bottle of Raats Family Wines Jasper Red Blend 2017 is a structured blend of 53% Cabernet Franc, 36% Malbec, 5% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdot. The vineyards have an average age of 36 years, with decomposed granite and Table Mountain sandstone soils, yielding 7-8 tons per hectare. The 2017 harvest produced healthy grapes with excellent flavour and colour due to moderate temperatures and a little rain.

Grapes were hand-sorted three times, crushed, and cold soaked on the skins for five days, then fermented and aged for 16 months in French tight grain oak barrels. The wine boasts an intense and complex nose with blackberry, black cherry, bramble, and hints of forest floor, dark chocolate, aniseed, and spicy tobacco. On the palate, blue and blackberry dance with focus and concentration, leading to a fine-grained, velvety texture, and a lingering finish with hints of fresh mint, cinnamon, and perfume.
