About this Item

A Cape silver fiddle pattern butter knife, Lawrence Holme Twentyman, 1818-1852 and various makers
including four fiddle pattern spoons, 140g all in

Notes

Butter knives appeared in England only towards the end of the 18th century and were introduced into the Cape by the English silversmiths after 1815. All the examples known, have silver handles and scimitar-shaped blades, sometimes with engraved decoration.
