Sugar tongs introduced to the Cape by the English silversmiths, Cape sugar tongs all date from after 1815. Like the English examples of the time they are made from a single piece of silver, the bow often curved in section to give it strength. All Cape sugar tongs have plain spoon-shaped fingers and only a few are decorated.
