About this Item

Sélection Saint-Joseph Offerus 2017
5 (1 x 5) 750ml

Jean-Louis Chave is the most revered name in Hermitage, and Jean-Louis Chave Sélection is the family's négociant label, bringing their touch to wines from across the northern Rhône. Offerus is its Saint-Joseph, a supple, perfumed Syrah drawn from terraced granite vineyards. 2017 was a warm northern Rhône vintage of ripe, generous reds. Josh Raynolds from Vinous gave it a rating of 93, and Jancis Robinson gave it 17 out of 20.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Very dark blackish, purplish crimson. Intense, meaty nose that may be just the job with tonight's partridge. Spicy and treacly nose. Very smooth tannins initially and polished fruit, with a backlash of fine tannins and acidity on the end but sweet on the way to the dry finish. Very fine for the money and relatively accessible. Lightly salty; hugely savoury. This almost qualifies as luscious!" - Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Oct 2020)

"Opaque magenta. Mineral- and spice-accented dark berry and cherry aromas are complemented by a smoky nuance that builds with air. Concentrated blackberry and bitter cherry flavors show very good depth and take a sweeter turn on the back half. Finishes emphatically spicy and quite long, with supple, well-knit tannins lending shape to clinging cherry and floral pastille notes." - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (Mar 2020)
