About this Item

Brunello & Rosso di Montalcino La Cerbaiola 2012, 2011
3 (1 x 3) 750ml

This lot consists of the following wines:
Salvioni Rosso di Montalcino La Cerbaiola 2011 (1 x 750ml)
Salvioni Brunello di Montalcino La Cerbaiola 2012 (2 x 750ml)

Salvioni is one of Montalcino’s cult estates, a tiny family domaine at La Cerbaiola whose wines are made in minuscule quantities and eagerly sought by collectors, prized for a rare ethereal elegance. This lot pairs two of them: the younger, earlier-drinking Rosso di Montalcino 2011, from a warm vintage, which Walter Speller scored 17.5 out of 20; and the flagship Brunello di Montalcino 2012, from a very good, classic year, which drew 95 from Eric Guido of Vinous, 94 from Monica Larner of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, and 17.5+ from Walter Speller.

Critics Ratings

Rosso di Montalcino La Cerbaiola 2011
“Just ruby with a pale rim. Quite savoury and just a little vegetal, but otherwise quite reluctant on the nose. Sweet fruit palate with real transparency and elegance. Animating, gravelly tannin. A complete whole, if very young.” - Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Aug 2013)

Brunello di Montalcino La Cerbaiola 2012
“The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino is a total charmer, understated at first, but worthy of patience, as swirling unlocks depths of cinnamon and clove-tinged cherries, nuances of sweet mint, pine shavings and white smoke. It envelops the palate with ripe textural fruits, soothing and round, while saline-minerals and fine tannins mingle throughout, adding a balanced tension. Nothing is out of place here, as the 2012 finishes lightly structured, remarkably fresh and perfumed with red inner florals and savory spice. This is a beautiful and graceful interpretation of the vintage that still has many years of positive evolution for collectors to look forward to.” - Eric Guido, Vinous, 95/100 (Oct 2022)

“The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino La Cerbaiola is a beautiful expression with delicate berry flavors that wrap over the palate with polished perfection. The house style at Salvioni prizes ethereal elegance in a manner that few others can achieve within the Brunello appellation. These wines present a new facet each time you return to contemplate the fluid and ever-changing bouquet. Spicy tar, clove and toasted nut appear as almost indistinguishable afterthoughts on the long-lasting finish.” - Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 94/100 (May 2017)

“Tasted blind. Lustrous mid ruby. Backward on the nose but really enticing. Slow to unfold and with a gorgeous tannic structure and well-balanced acidity. Irresistible.......” - Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5+/20 (Jan 2017)
