About this Item
Penfolds, founded in 1844, is Australia's most famous wine house, from the iconic Grange down through its celebrated Bin range. Bin 389, the 'Baby Grange', is a Cabernet-Shiraz blend matured in the barrels that held the previous vintage's Grange. 1994 was a good South Australian vintage. Tamlyn Currin gave it 17 out of 20, and Robert M. Parker Jr. reviewed it for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

Critics Ratings
"Smells of ink and roast beef. Intensely savoury. Kelp and iron, squid ink and rust, cassis and elderberry. So much tannic mass – the 'chunkiest' so far in this Bin 389 vertical. A wine of storm-cloud indigo and mountain-mithril blacks. Then suddenly the storm lifts and the fruit slips in. Minty, very fresh finish." - Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jan 2025)
"The 1994 Cabernet/Shiraz Bin 389, a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Shiraz, possesses a dense purple color, and a big, sweet nose of blackberries, earth, and a touch of asphalt and smoke. Full-bodied, with copious quantities of sweet, chewy fruit......" - Robert M. Parker Jr., Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Feb 1998)
