About this Item

Margaux 2008
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Château Palmer is a Third Growth of Margaux that consistently performs at First Growth level, a Cabernet-and-Merlot estate now farmed biodynamically. 2008 was a firm, classic Bordeaux vintage that has aged well, and Palmer excelled. Neal Martin from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 95, Richard Hemming MW gave it 18 out of 20, Stephen Tanzer from Vinous gave it a rating of 93, and James Molesworth from Wine Spectator gave it a rating of 91.

Critics Ratings

"Tasted ex-chateau and single blind in Southwold. Two bottles of Chateau Palmer were opened. It has a very sophisticated, but slightly broody bouquet with blackberry cassis, graphite and a little more earthiness than I recall. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine delineation, tightly knit with superb focus and sense of harmony. Crisp, sinewy and multi-faceted, this is a great Palmer for the vintage and a serious contender for the best wine of the appellation. Bravo. Tasted January 2012." - Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Mar 2012)

"There's a really delicious green streak to the nose here – perhaps it's a touch of underripeness, perhaps Cabernet Franc, but it works so nicely. Certainly it's preferable to the 2009, to my mind at least. Crunchy black fruit, firm but smooth tannins. Perfectly ripe but with the edge of herby flavour adding complexity. A great example." - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 18/20 (Aug 2022)

"Full medium ruby. Inviting, almost liqueur-like aromas of dark raspberry, sexy spices and tobacco lifted by a floral quality. Broad and plush but precise and fine-grained, with a layered texture to the concentrated flavors of red and dark berries and dark chocolate. Really builds toward the back but the wine's compelling thickness of fruit is nicely leavened by sneaky minerality. Finishes with noble tannins and captivating energy and perfume." - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 93/100 (Jul 2011)

"Offers dark plum, mulled currant and blackberry notes, with flashes of roasted apple wood and maduro tobacco, plus cocoa and espresso. There's nicely rounded flesh and a long, integrated finish that has some extra grip. Clearly apart from the Margaux pack in 2008." - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Apr 2011)
